The World number one and top seed Serena Williams won her third US Open title last night and her 18th grand slam tournament in total.
She won 6-3, 6-3 in a powerful display of controlled tennis to completely out-play the young challenger Caroline Wozniacki in just 75 minutes.
It has been a long wait for her 18th title and enabling her to equal the record of Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert, she failed to land any of the other big titles in 2014 and must have began to wonder where the next grand slam would come from.

“I’ve been trying to reach it for so long,” she said. “I didn’t really think I would get there. I felt so good.”
“I just could never have imagined that I would be mentioned with Chris Evert or with Martina Navratilova, because I was just a kid with a dream and a racquet.
“Living in Compton, this never happened before.”
“I couldn’t have finished things in a better way. It is a pleasure for me to win here, I am really emotional. I couldn’t ask to do it at a better place.”
