Controversies always arise about which sport is the more healthful one. To put our minds to rest and declare an end to the endless debate, let's look into two articles written on behalf of tennis.
Ross Chainey, editor of Health & Wellbeing at UK MSN, wrote " Seven reasons to take up tennis."
- It'll help you lose weight.
- The link between exercise and improved mental health is well-established.
- It's good for your heart.
- You'll get some fresh air.
- Age is no barrier.
- It encourages companionship.
- It's fun!
For its part, the United States Professional Tennis Association (USTA), outlines a combined 34 physical and psychological reasons to play tennis. In his the article "Health Benefits of Tennis: " Why Play Tennis?" by Jack L. Groppel, Ph.D. Groppel summarizes these into five overall results for tennis players:
- Tennis cuts risk of death in half.
- Tennis boosts vigor, optimism and self-esteem.
- Tennis leads to continuing brain development
- Tennis develops positive personality traits better than other sports.
- Tennis burns more calories.
If these reasons don't make any sense, care to settle the argument on the tennis court? - RMM
