PHILTA held a 2-day officiating seminar for Chair Umpires on August 29-30, 2008. Similar seminars of this nature had been held monthly, with the August activity serving as the culminating event.

The 11 seminar participants Apolo Alfaro, Pereme Jeremiah Alina, Arsenio Frencillo, Napoleon Gabat, Rudy Gabat, John Legaspi, Eduardo Ligon, Angel Mendoza, Antonio Quiza, Butch Siega and Rolando Villanueva are joined for a souvenir photo above by PHILTA President Lito Villanueva and lecturers Maximiano “Boy” Leonora and Tomas Falcis.

The seminar, which was held at Rizal Memorial Tennis Center, Pablo Ocampo St. Manila, started at 10:00 a.m. on August 29, 2008 and finished at 5:00 p.m. on August 30, 2008.

To defray expenses, which covered the participant's meals (lunch plus morning & afternoon merienda) as well as printed officiating materials, each participant contributed a nominal fee for the 2-day seminar.

The seminar was taught in English and Pilipino and focused on the Rules of Tennis, the Code of Conduct & Basic Chair Umpiring. Copies of materials on these topics, Score Cards & other related items were provided to all participants. - RMM
