The 4th year, the WTA Future Stars will see 48 young tennis players from 21 countries best each other in a round-robin format competition.
The top under-14 and under-16 players from the Asia-Pacific region showed off their skills in Singapore over the past week, and champions were decided Sunday on Centre Court at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
Priska Nugroho from Indonesia emerged the victor of the under-14 tournament with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Thailand’s Primada Jattavapornvanit.
In the under-16 event, Australian Megan Smith needed a match tiebreak to claim the title, battling past Lee Ya-Hsin from Chinese-Taipei, 7-5, 1-6, 10-5.
“It has been an exciting week for me playing against the other future stars and it’s an honor to take home the trophy,” Smith said after her win. “I really love the experience here in Singapore and I learned a lot from the tennis legends and coaches. I hope that this gives me the platform to push further and represent my country.”
